TEACHING PRACTICE- PHASE 1( WEEKLY REFLECTION- 1)

After completing our second semester examination, on July 14, 2025 we began our first phase teaching practice. The first week of my school internship at MMHSS Nilamel has been both exciting and enlightening. As a third-semester B.Ed trainee, this marks my initial exposure to a real classroom environment, moving beyond theoretical understanding to practical experience. Me along with eight other classmates from different optional subjects went to M M H S S, Nilamel. I reached the school at 9 am. We met the headmistress and then met our subject teachers. There was morning assembly that day. On that assembly, there was an event of inauguration of matrubhumi newspaper called 'mathuram malayalam'. Later the classes started. We observed various activities and facilities in the school and at 4.00 pm the class was over. after the students left, we along with teachers left the school.

During this week, we were formally introduced to the school, staff, and mentor teachers. I was assigned to observe classes in the9th class under the guidance of Anaz sir. I spent most of the week observing teaching methods, student behavior, and classroom management techniques. I also participated in morning assemblies and helped arrange some classroom activities.

Initially, I felt a bit nervous standing in front of students even during a simple introduction. Though I didn’t take any full-length classes this week, I interacted with a few students during group tasks. I found it challenging to maintain their attention, but I gradually became more confident by observing how my mentor handled such situations calmly and effectively.

One of my key observations was the importance of classroom routines and the way the teacher set clear expectations for students from the beginning of the period. I also noticed how lesson transitions and time management play a crucial role in maintaining student engagement. Watching my mentor skillfully handle both academically strong and struggling students taught me the value of differentiated instruction.

Another takeaway was how students respond better when the teacher connects lessons to their real-life experiences. It made me realize that teaching is not just about delivering content but making it relatable and meaningful.
